Sustainability has been in ST’s DNA for more than 25 years and we are convinced that a sustainable culture is good for the planet, for our people, for our customers, and for our investors. Now we want to go beyond what we have already achieved by amplifying the positive impact of our technology and accelerating our sustainability initiatives.
Putting people first
People are our biggest asset. Treating our employees with respect and dignity and providing a safe and healthy working environment are a fundamental part of our culture dating back to our inception in 1987.
Our values, People, Integrity, Excellence are set out in our Company’s Code of Conduct.
We support and promote the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights and all other major international human rights standards, and we were one of the first companies to sign the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2000.
We have been a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), since 2005 and we are committed to implementing the RBA code of conduct. We participate in the collective efforts of the industry to find solutions to our biggest sustainability challenges, such as conflict minerals, working conditions, environmental protection and health & safety. Our Corporate Labor and Human Rights procedure sets the framework for deploying ST’s Labor and Human Rights practices throughout the company.
Protecting the environment
Managing the environmental impact associated with our operations is a key component of our culture, and we believe it contributes to the long-term success of our business. In 2020 we accelerated our ambitions and announced our goal to become carbon neutral by 2027.
Our Environmental Policy and procedures describe how we prevent pollution, reduce consumption of natural resources, reduce waste, and minimize the impacts of our manufacturing operations. Our Policy is in line with international and local regulations, incorporating best practice principles from the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), as well as the ISO 14001 and 50001 international standards.
Our Environmental, Health and Safety Decalogue (2014-2020) sets operational targets to improve ST's health, safety, eco-design and environmental performance.
Improving people's lives
We are convinced that technology plays a key role in helping to solve environmental, social, and societal challenges. Our technologies enable smarter mobility, more efficient power and energy management, and the wide-scale deployment of the Internet of Things and 5G technology. Our Sustainable Technology label assures full responsibility across the product life cycle from responsible sourcing, eco-design, and manufacturing, to usage and end of life.
