48V electrical systems have advantages over current 12V systems, providing 4 times the power and providing greater efficiency when powering fans, pumps, electric power steering racks, and compressors. Higher voltages are more efficient, but automotive regulations demand costly shielded cabling (galvanic isolation) above 60V, so 48V systems keep the cost down.
48V systems used in Mild hybrids, are the cost effective, yet emission reducing first step on the electrification ladder.
ST is able to offer a complete product portfolio including silicon power MOSFETs, protections, gate drivers and microcontrollers, in accordance to AEC-Q100 and AEC-Q101 standards to build cost effective and efficient 48V vehicle networks.
